Judge's Critique

I was delighted to be asked to judge Labradors at the 50th Anniversary of the West of England Labrador Retriever Club.

Thank you for having invited me and for making me feel welcome from the first minute of my arrival during the evening Gala Dinner, until the next morning during breakfast.

I was happy to see that a good number of dogs had superb expressions and were well developed in body, movement was really good and owners very professional. Thank you all for showing under me and accepting my decisions in such a sporting manner.

Minor Puppy dog
1st My Linjor Des Landes D'Ecole
A young chocolate that immediately attracted me with a strong body, beautiful neck and shoulder, well developed chest, good bone. Moved well for age and follows his handler with joy.

2nd Zanys Black Jack
A good young dog that is maturing well. I liked his good quarters, angulations and topline, with a correctly set tail. Attractive head and expression, with correct eyes. Moved well.

Puppy dog
1st Wynfaul Tonto
A yellow with good bone, strong body, short coupled, good forehand and stifles & in beautiful coat . Temperament a bit soft but in perfectly tune with handler. Showed well.

2nd Ramsayville Reflection Of Musubi
A black puppy with a big but attractive head , correct ears, good bone and feet. Level topline and a well set tail.
He moved and showed very well, very close to first position.

Junior dog
1st Ramsayville Remmington
Well balanced dog with beautiful bone and feet, good length of neck, well sprung ribs and strong over the loin, moved and showed very well.

2nd Sandylands Over The Moon To Ludalor JW
Well presented with good head, eyes and expression. Liked his front and rear angulations with a nice turn of stifle, excellent coat and tail, nice temperament during showing.

1st Wynfaul Tonto

Undergraduate Dog
1st - Oakhouse Oh Two
A very interesting black type with a balanced head, shoulders well laid back with angulated upper arm. Well developed chest & quarters with good muscle, stifles well turned. Good and round feet. Move with drive.

2nd - Trendlewood Mr Blue Sky
Really good temperament. Nice head with good shape of eye. Long sloping shoulders but correct through the body, good topline, well muscled thigh, moved effortlessly around the ring.

Graduate Dog
1st - Lembas Swings Both Ways At Mibridge
Another black type with a very important head. Strong neck into well laid shoulders with a good length of upper arm. Very good bone and feet, deep chest, correct topline , excellent quarters, beautiful and typical temperament, moved well.

2nd - Carpenny Seashore
Good type still maturing with a nice head and expression, level topline and a well set tail. Moved well and is very careful with handler. Shown in good condition.

Post Graduate Dog
1st - Wynfaul The Wizard JW
Short coupled black with excellent quarters, round feet, correct topline and tail set. Pleasing head with correct proportion skull and muzzle, good shape of eyes. Brilliant temperament inside the ring. Shown very well.
2nd - Bowstones Sun King Of Kaspair
A pale yellow who moved very well with calm but gentle temperament. Kind expression with a good neck, sloping shoulders and a correct length of upper arm. Firm topline and correctly set tail.

Limit Dog
1st - Cadbarin Loganberry
Well made black with a big but pleasure head and expression. Excellent topline and tail set, muscular back with good thigh, stifle and hock. Moved and shown very well.
2nd - Kaspair Now or Never
Another well made and big yellow, moved very well around the ring. Well ribbed body and correct fore-chest, good angulations, hocks and feet.
Open Dog
1st - Sh Ch Ramsayville Rock Solid JW
A very attractive head with eyes and ears which are typical of the breed, super reach of neck which flowed into a level topline and a correctly set tail, a well laid shoulder and correct upper arm, good angulations front and back, moved very well around the ring .
2nd - Ir Sh Ch Claychalk Costa Zaire Of Bannabeach
Lovely type of dog, presenting a good outline and very close to first position. Beautiful black coat, firm topline with typical tail always in movement. Round, deep and big ribs, Excellent expression, moved with drive.

Veteran Dog or Bitch
1st - Lt Ch Liquido Rio Kompanija
An interesting and very important yellow who was 3th in Open Dog. It's a pleasure to see how he moved and turned in the ring despite being ten years old. Big bone, good angulations, well muscled thigh and nice turn of stifle.
2nd - Trendlewood Only To Fly
Strong boy with an important head but in proportion to its size, good layback of shoulder, correct upper arm and angulations. Good condition of coat. Liked for his cheerfulness and good movement, very speedy.

Special Beginners Dog or Bitch
1st - Centenalee Polly Anna
Very cute yellow female with a correct shape of body for her age. Good topline, bone, angulations and very toned thigh, perfect hocks and feet. She moved soundly and in perfect harmony with handler.

Brace
1st – Wilcox’s.
Two chocolate labs of different sex, shown and moving with a good and flowing step to the trot, showing happiness and a temperament which is typical for our breed.

Special Open (chocolate) Dog or Bitch
1st - Furador Violet Extreme
Cute and enterprising female, short coupled, good layback from shoulder blade to chest, good angulations, correct movement of tail, moved soundly.
2nd - Trewinard Russet
Young female looking right for age. Feminine head with eyes of a good shape and colour. Good bone and feet, well developed chest and good forehand, nice turn of stifle. Shown very well.
Minor Puppy Bitch
1st - Zanys Black Betty
Outstanding young female, everything just right for age. Very careful with everything happening in and out of the ring. Balanced throughout with a good length of leg. Loved her head shape and eyes. Topline and tailset were good and she moved soundly.

2nd - Trewinnard Piccadilly
Good yellow type with nice expression and beautiful temperament. Good shoulders, bone and feet, Showed and moved with happiness, nice to see in a young Lab.

Puppy Bitch
1st - Tweedledum Crakkabelle
Female,well developed for her age with a very attractive head into a good neck and solid shoulder.
Good front and rear angulations, good length of leg. Loved her head shape and eyes. Topline and tailset good, moved very soundly
2nd - Winfaul Flame & Fortune
Very pretty yellow youngster, with good bone and feet, deep enough through the chest, excellent quarters and angulations. She moved and showed very well.

Junior Bitch
1st - Arrowmoy Fairtale Of New York Farnfield
Super showgirl, just my type. Beautiful head and expression through her well made full body, excellent topline , good quarters, hocks and feet. Smooth and fluid movement. Considered in the final for best female.
2nd -Tweedledum Crakkabelle

A good choc young female, liked her body width, shoulder and good angulation front and back. Correct and pleasing head and expression , moved well.
Undergraduate Bitch
1st - Antonine Hetty Feather
Well made black female, showed well. Strong but cleanly set neck and well laid shoulders with a good length of upper arm. Deep through the brisket and has excellent rear angulations.
2nd - Meadowleigh Romantic Quest
Another good black female, I loved immediately her nice expression with eyes of correct shape and colour,
good body with a firm topline , good bone and angulations, moved well.

Graduate Bitch
1st - Trendlewood Strange Magic
Built on clean lines, this yellow bitch is strongly made with a very good bone and feet. Good quarters and angulations. Moved well, especially on side profile.
Post Graduate Bitch
1st - Foxrush Straight Talking
Beautiful and complete type with brisket and chest well developed and shoulder well laid. Liked her shape of head and kind expression with a good length of muzzle. In good coat, moved and showed well.
2nd - Tweedledum Listed Online For Antonine
Subject with a good reach of neck. Quarters well developed, with a defined second thigh and very accentuated angulations, level topline with beautiful otter tail, gentle head and expression.

Limit bitch
1st - Lembas Go Gentle
Outstanding black female 3 years old, one of the best I found in this show, everything just right for age and nothing overdone. Liked her head shape, topline and tailset. Moves with great thrust on a floor not perfectly suited.
2nd - Marronoir Madonna At Zanys
Kind head and expression with good pigmentation around eyes and nose. Good topline, tails and bone,well developed chest and good forehand, nice turn of stifles and hocks. Showed very well.

Open bitch
1st -Foxrush Spun Gold JW
Like her sister, confirm my critique for a beautiful and complete type. Well balanced, presents a good overall outline. Strongly made all through with good ribs and loin. Good bend of stifle and hocks. Friendly temperament inside ring .
2nd – Sh Ch Lembas Pretty Amazing Grace JW
Yellow of good breed type, solidly built but still retaining her complete femininity. Excellent rib cage,topline, quarters and stands on sound bone and neat feet. Very close to the winner , showed and moved soundly.
